A coalition of Sarasota residents working toward quality progress for our city.

STOP! is a civic group formed to safeguard the growth and development of the City of Sarasota. Our focus concerns the city’s zoning regulations. Currently, these codes prevent formal citizen input and feedback on proposed development in our downtown while creating hulking buildings on narrow sidewalks, unrealistic traffic planning and walkability/ pedestrian hazards. The new Form-Based Code, currently under consideration, would reduce public input in all outlying areas of the City.

This website tells you who we are and what we do. It provides background and resources on the issues we face. Most importantly, it provides a guide to getting involved and making your voice heard.

Please explore our site and get to know us better; we hope you will want to join our effort.

February 22, 5:00 PM (wear red)
City Commission special hearing on
sidewalks and setbacks
City Hall (1656 1st St.)
Time  to attend and share your views!  Our City is steadily growing.  Will it grow into a place you want to be, with sidewalks wide enough for pedestrians, trees, tables and other urban amenities?
March 15, 5:00 PM (wear red)
City Commission special hearing on
approval process for new buildings
City Hall (1656 1st St.)
Should you have a seat at City Hall when large new buildings are approved?  If you live downtown, you have no formal voice:  city staff approves all projects.  If you live outside the downtown, the new Form Based Code may reduce public hearings.  STOP! believes all citizens should have the right to a formal hearing when large new projects are being approved.  Please attend this hearing and make a difference.
